AOL is starting to block random accounts. Here's the post from the SA Forums:

Axilla_cmat came out of the closet to say

Recently AOL has been suspending AIM accounts for unknown reasons. A lot of people are getting the message "Sign on Blocked" and are forced to create a new screen name and lose their whole buddy list. This occurs if your screen name was an AOL account that was cancelled, but also has been happening to people who have never had an AOL account at all.

And before anyone can post "AIM sucks, you should use ICQ/MSN/Yahoo/Jabber/Bitwise/smoke signals" we all know AIM sucks but many people use it and wouldn't want to lose their contact list.

EDIT: I'll summarize what people have found throughout this thread so far--

--Last activity on screen name has no bearing on whether or not account is suspended. People's old accounts not used in months have been fine or have been blocked, and people have gotten accounts blocked that they've used earlier today or yesterday.
--Using an AIM addon such as DeadAIM (Yes, I'm a moderator on the DeadAIM forums if anyone was wondering), MiddleMan, AIMutation, etc, or alternate AIM clients, such as GAIM or Trillian, have no bearing. Users are affected all around, users who have never used another AIM client or AIM add-on have lost screen names.
--Trivial stuff like warning level, profile content, etc. dont seem to matter at all.

My best bet to save your screen names is make sure that your screen name is confirmed (my aim-->edit options-->confirm screen name) and make sure the email address that its associated with is current and active.

It's the AOLocaust!

So be sure you back up your buddy lists to be safe, and let everyone that doesnt know what's going on, know what's going on.

If this continues to happen, I can only hope that Google will create a nice little messenger client, similar to AIM, since, Yahoo, MSN, and ICQ all really really suck. Though, I've never tried Jabber.
